I guess I'm going to have to pick it up again
I did get into the groove of not blogging over the holidays, didn't I. Mind you, a rest after the November daily thing was warranted, and December felt like there wasn't a free minute, right up to 2 AM on Christmas Eve. Once I went to bed that night, there was nothing else that needed doing, and the rest of the holidays were enjoyable. Both sets of grandparents were home for the first time in quite a few years, which meant more entertaining but was worth every second of that. And once that was done, I got to sit in my chair for three days straight, pretty much just eating leftovers and treats and either reading new books or doing some concentrated programming that I hadn't had a chance to do for ages. It was the hope of that downtime that kept me upright for the preceding month, and it was everything I wanted for Christmas. What else? We used some of our Christmas money to get "Feast of Cohen" tickets, which we had never seen before: now we know what all the hoopla was about - an incredible tribute concert with a huge gang of local performers, and well worth the price. We sent off the old year with the Bauers and Taylor-Hoods in attendance, which also had a certain rightness to it - we don't get near enough chances to sit around a table together drinking wine with children elsewhere (glued to the DVD player, in this case). The girls and I went back to the salt mines on the 3rd, and we finally got our tree down on Old Christmas Day.
Resolutions? Not really. Intentions, more like. I'd like to get the house gutted, once and for all; or once, anyway. We made a start - bringing up from the basement the junk boxes that were in the way of the boxes of decorations and chucking most of their contents - but it's a slow process. The kitchen has been properly cleaned every weekday morning by whichever parent doesn't walk the kids to school. The laundry train is running on time. There's exercise and violin and computer-work and -play to be done. Life continues to roll along, and we, as always, keep our chins up and do the best we can.
