So I went to the gym How many blog posts have this statement in them? Thousands, more or less. I, however, last went to the gym sometime in university in the early 90's. Between lack of money and the nuisance factor of actually getting to a gym without a car, especially in winter, it's been a non-issue for the last decade or so. However, between our two injuries (Bob's ankle and my knee) we've both gained an unreasonable amount of weight over the past months. Exercising outdoors in the approaching fall and winter is not the most appealing idea, so when Nubodys finally announced that the Atlantic Place gym was opening in early October, we hemmed and hawed, rolled numbers, considered options, and finally went and signed up. The opening was delayed for a over a week - after we had paid our money, no less - but we managed to get in last Thursday. Beginners' tours begun this week; regular classes, next week (with any luck). The minimum we've set for ourselves is three visits a week; I should definitely be able to go two days after work, and there might be an hour to be squeezed out of most weekends. Dance class and daily walks for me and walks and climbing for Bob will continue. Once we get that routine down and October finished with - Hallowe'en and Jean's birthday party have made it pretty crazy around here - we'll see what we can do about the diet, which is not too bad but could use some tweaking. Fortunately, for me anyway, exercise tends to make me not want to waste it by eating junk, especially when I know how few calories I burn for all that effort.
